Few people can claim to know what our national health care plan will look like in the future. However, organizers of the University of Arizona’s Wellness Week say that there is a lot we can all do today to help ensure our own good health.

Contemporary string ensemble Barrage will perform a benefit concert in Tucson for TUSD’s Opening Minds through the Arts.

It’s no secret that arts education is often the easy target in these times of continuous budget shortfalls in our schools. However, there are many people that recognize the importance of a strong foundation in the arts as an integral part of teaching for the 21st century. Opening Minds through the Arts works to teach reading, writing, math and science to kindergarten through 8th grade students. Barrage, an innovative string ensemble from Alberta Canada, has developed an integrated program to educate, motivate and inspire students, and is bringing their touring show to Sahuaro High School, as a benefit for OMA.

This year marks the 20th incarnation of what has become one of the quintessential Tucson experiences. The All Souls Procession takes place on Sunday November 8th, and is the culmination of a weekend full of activities.

The archaeological exhibit Writings Out of Time: The University of Arizona’s Cuneiform Collection showcases the Arizona State Museum’s extraordinary – and unexpected – holdings in Near Eastern antiquities. It will be open to the public from Sept. 14 – Dec. 18, 2009, in the Special Collections Library.
